THE LEGEND OF MALIN KUNDANG
Once upon a time, in a small village near the coast in West Sumatra lived a woman and her son, Malin Kundang. Malin Kundang and his mother had to die because they died when they were babies. Malin Kundang is a healthy, diligent, and strong child. He usually goes out to sea to catch fish. After catching the fish, he will take it to his mother, or sell the fish caught in the city. One day, when Malin Kundang was sailing, he saw a merchant ship being raided by a group of pirates. With his courage, Malin Kundang helped the merchant defeat the pirates. For love to him, followers of Malin Kundang to sail with him. Malin Kundang agreed with the hope of getting a better life. He left his mother alone. Years later, Malin Kundang became very rich. He owned a large ship and a large crew working loading merchandise. He also married a beautiful woman. While he was sailing on his trading journey, his ship landed on a beach near a small village. The local residents saw that it was Malin Kundang, a boy from the area. News spread quickly in the city; "Malin Kundang has become rich and now he is here". An old woman, who was Malin Kundang's mother, ran to the beach to meet a new wealthy merchant. He wanted to do it to release the sadness of loneliness after so long. Malin and his wife ran to meet their beloved mother and applied closely to caring for a Malin's longing for his mother. Malin and his wife rested for a while in the old hut where Malin grew up. After some time, Malin invited his mother to live with him in a magnificent palace. Before he sailed back with his mother and wife, Malin said goodbye and gave a little of his property to the neighbors around the house as a sign of gratitude for helping his mother over the years.
